Visual Metaphors

  1. A car emitting gas.

  2. Products that consume gas.

  3. Factories that release gas into the air.

  4. The pollution in China.

  5. The extinction of animals.

These would be good visual metaphors to show the affects of Global Warming and how people are helping to increase the carbon in the air.

Global Warming

Article

On Feb. 2, 2007 the United Nations scientific panel studied climate change and said it was not completely natural causes that are effecting the Earth’s climate.  That humans have had some affect to the Earth’s changes over the years.  The increased carbon dioxide is being cause by smokestacks, tailpipes, and the burning of forests have greatly contributed to this.  Growing rates of carbon have always been with the Earth since the very beginning but there has been a major increase since humans have become industrialized.

This is a good article since it shows that whoever wrote this has looked at a lot of facts.  But humans are not the only cause to the raise in Global Warming it has always been a natural thing.  Especially with the increase of car use in China, has polluted a lot of the air .

Expert Interview

This is the script for my expert interview.

Hi my name is Chris Jones and I am a student form Parkway North Highschool.  We are currently working on a Documentary about Global Warming.  I would like to know if you have time that we could set up an interview.  The interview would take approximatly 20-30 minutes.  We could meet anywhere that would be convienient.  What day are you available adn at what time?  Some questions would be:  What is your opinion on the effects of Global Warming?  Do you think Global Warming in a serious issue that the world needs to think about?.

Final Interview Questions

What is your opinion on the effects of global warming?

From your perspective, what issues or effects (i.e., environmental, political, economic, cultural, social) do you feel are the most important? Why?

What do you feel the Local Government can do? U.S. government?

Do you think Global Warming is a serious issue that the world needs to think about?

How do you personally feel global warming should be dealt with (if they believe it is a serious climate crisis)?

Have you made any changes to your home (solar panels, light bulbs, cars) to reduce your carbon emissions?

Do you know what the average carbon emission is for a regular person? How about yourself?

Do you plan to change your ways in order to reduce your total carbon emissions?

States Suing EPA over Global Warming

In April 2007 EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) was sued by officials of 18 states.  They are suing EPA over the inactivity in the Global Warming threat.  The EPA’s failure to act in the face of these incontestable dangers is a shameful dereliction of duty,” Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said.  The petition wants to have the government force EPA to act within 60 days on Global Warming.  EPA says that they want to start a good foundation so they can lay down laws restricting carbon emissions.  But others say that they are standing in the way of others efforts.  Some officials are saying that the inactivity of EPA has the window of opportunity closing a little more each day for a solution.

I can agree with this article because the people have not seen much action being made by EPA.  The carbon emissions have been increasing at a steady pace for a while and there has been little improvement.  This improvement has been made by people who have been changing their lifestyles rather than mass changes within the populace.

Does Global Warming directly affecting you?

Will it be a problem in the near future?

What do you think you can do to help to prevent the fossil fuel use in your household and community?

Waht do you think that the Government can do to help prevent Global Warming?

What do you think the worst affects of Global Warming are?

How do you think this will be a problem in the future?

These are questions that can be asked in our interviews for our segment.

Climate Change: Why We Don’t Believe It

“Global warming is a threat that is going to wipe out civilisation as we know it.”  Right now there is a confusing problem to the global warming solution.  World leaders have been arguing over how to prevent global warming when they really don’t need to worry about it at all.  People who believe in Global Warming outnumber those who don’t believe six to one.  Some experts were saying that trying to prevent global warming will affect the social classes and affect the economy.

I somewhat agree with what he is trying to say because it can affect the economic classes by just dropping the use of oil.  But if we slow down the use of oil and eventually make people independent of oil this will not exactly completly affect the social classes.

Warmer Ocean Could Reduce Number of Atlantic Hurricane Landfalls

Article

he National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are saying that this natural rise in global oceans.   These temperatures are influencing the winds that help to create hurricanes but with this rise in temperature there will be fewer hurricanes.  The factors that affect hurricanes are wind shear, atmospheric humidity, sea level pressure, and sea surface temperature.  From 1854 to 2006 there has been recorded rises and drops in surface tempurature of the sea.

I can agree with this article by saying that it is a natural cycle that the sea surface temperature is changing over a period of time.  Humans are not affecting how the tempurature is changing but the extreme use of fossil fuel is causing other things.  One example is that this huge consumption of fossil fuels can cause wars.  But this natural rise of tempurature can help to reduce hurricanes.

In Highland Peru, a Culture Confronts Blight

They are able  grow 250 different type of potatoes in the climate they live in.  Late blight is affecting farmers now because of warmer wetter climates.  They are now forced to walk an hour and a half to get to cooler climates so they can grow their potatoes.  They say they can notice the difference in climate everytime the have a crop of diseased potatoes.

I do not agree with this article because it is a natural cycle that the climate is going through.  The people who lived their probably had to deal with this every 15,000 years.
